Although it’s winter, sunglasses are still as essential as ever. I never leave the house without them, and if I ever do forget, I get straight back in the elevator to claim them. For the glare? Yes. To be incognito? Yes. And to complete the outfit? Definitely. I had my first pair of Christian Dior aviators when I was about 12 years old and the habit of putting them on has become entrenched in my daily getting-ready routine. I’ve never looked back, and haven’t really deviated too far from the aviator, the classic Ray Ban, or the large black frames. But lately eyewear designs have become far less ‘accessory’ and far more stand-out. There are the colourful (think the Karen Walker Candy Bar tour: https://themovingpicturenow.com/2012/05/27/karen-walker-candy-bar/), the vintage, the circular, and the baroque designs a la Prada.
I love the Miu Miu pair (featured above) on Leighton Meester. I’m not usually huge on coloured frames, but gold I can work with. Sunglass Hut and OPSM have the latest Spring/Summer designs from DKNY, Miu Miu, Dolce and Gabbana, Ray Ban, Persol and Prada in store now, and it’s looking good.
